Read median, p25, p75 and n
Step by step
Before you start. You see these figures on a code page in Rate Watch and in the Table view of a Chat answer chart.
- The median is the middle rate. Half the listed rates sit below it and half above. Chat labels it p50, and a code page says Payer median.
- p25 is the low end of the typical range, with a quarter of listed rates at or below it. p75 is the high end, with three quarters at or below it.
- Each rate counts as often as it is listed in the payer's files. n is how many listings back the figure, so a larger n rests on more filed rates.
- The Rate column on the Rates tab is one payer's median for that code and place.
- On a code page, Market median is the median of the payers' medians. Payer spread runs from the lowest payer median to the highest.
- The strip under the Benchmark block shows the P25 to P75 of payer medians. The square marks the median and the tick marks the Medicare fee.
What you see. Pick a payer in the Payer menu on a code page to see that payer's own median and P25 to P75.
Tip. In a Chat answer chart, click Table, then point at p25, p50, p75 or n to read its definition.
