What can owners do that members can't?

Owners invite and remove people, rename the workspace, and add or cancel bundles. Members use everything the workspace pays for and ask an owner for changes.

Compare what owners and members do

Step by step

Before you start. A workspace has two roles, owner and member, and no admin role.

  1. Click your initials at the top right to open the account menu, then click Team.
  2. Under MEMBERS, each person's pill reads OWNER or MEMBER. The line beside the workspace name ends with you are the owner or you are a member.
  3. Owners invite people with Invite a teammate, and can Resend email or Revoke a pending invitation.
  4. Owners can Remove a member and rename the workspace with the pencil beside its name.
  5. Owners also handle billing, and only an owner can start checkout. On the Code bundles tab of Profile & preferences, only an owner sees Add, Remove, Cancel plan and Keep plan.
  6. Members use everything the workspace pays for. On Team they see the same MEMBERS and INVITATIONS lists, with no buttons.
  7. Where a bundle or the plan needs an owner, a member sees a lock and a see Team link. It opens Team, where the OWNER pill shows who to ask.

What you see. Each account belongs to one workspace, so an invitation to a second workspace is not applied.

Tip. The app cannot change a role. People who join through an invitation join as members.
